Looking for a sharp, first-rate writer to work with our dynamic team to maintain documentation for the Navis terminal operating system.  We currently have seven writers across three teams in Oakland CA, Austin TX, and Chennai, India. Responsibilities

 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Work with two Agile development teams to document functionality in two-week cycles. This requires ongoing communication of commitments and progress.
  • Share responsibility with fellow technical writers for publishing documentation.
  • Share rotating responsibility with technical writing team for providing high-level quality control for our content.
  • Complete documentation projects to improve the overall usability of our content.

Qualifications

  • 7 - 12 years as a technical writer
  • B.A./M.A. in either English Literature or Journalism, or a B.S./M.S. in a technical field.
  • The ability to:

    • Write clearly and unambiguously from the user’s perspective

    • Dig into the details to understand what will be important for the user

    • Identify everything a user needs to do to complete a task ssuccessfully

    • Provide information in the most effective order, placing appropriate emphasis on the most key details.

    • Understand and communicate the big picture

    • Use graphics effectively when processes are too complex for words

    • Create and maintain a document plan

    • Create an outline for a new document, ordering information in a logical, hierarchical structure

    • Follow existing documentation processes and focus on the details

    • Juggle multiple deliverables

    • Take personal ownership and show initiative to make our documentation the best it can be!
