The IT Senior Systems Engineer is responsible to execute on the operation, administration, architecture design and implementation of various IT technology solutions within the global Navis infrastructure. This position is a hands-on function with responsibility to own and solve simple to complex questions about technologies that are the key to the success of the Navis business. These technologies include support of the software factory, Business Solutions and Cloud and Database operations teams within the IT department. Through global team participation working within IT and across the Navis business community, success will be measured by both infrastructure systems availability and future solutions delivery.  

This position requires a broad range of skills and experience: deep IT knowledge of solutions delivery, experience working across multiple business teams ensuring meeting team objectives, and executing strategies that align with the Navis vision. The ideal candidate will be able to articulate how their experience demonstrates how they have acquired deep technology domain knowledge and been able to apply these lessons learned such that Navis will benefit from their knowledge and ingenuity.  


  • Ensure the availability and operation of assigned areas of operations within various Navis business solutions and infrastructure technologies.
  • Lead activities in the design and production implementation for a portfolio of deployment projects owned by the IT Manager such that the team can ensure goals and objectives of each project are accomplished within prescribed time frames and budgets.
  • Add depth of technology knowledge in support of the R&D Infrastructure Operations Manager working closely with executive stakeholders across Navis business units to capture their vision of how technology can add business value, translate that vision into actionable strategies, and manage the strategies from design through delivery.
  • Work closely with project implementation teams to ensure that deliverables have met the functional requirements and technical design specifications defined as part of project specifications.
  • Work with business users to customize, configure, and deploy business and engineering applications to support existing and future infrastructure.
  • Manage personal workload by prioritizing and scheduling assigned tasks as necessary to ensure commitments are met.
  • Support R&D Infrastructure Operations Manager in the process to ensure appropriate and detailed project work plans are in place for all projects. Following best practices in project management, consistently participate in projects review process to ensure that projects are on schedule and within budget.
  • Identify departmental needs and make suggestions regarding technical direction.
  • Develop and build repeatable processes to improve department efficiency.
  • Develop and build documents and knowledge base to share with entire team.
  • Develop and maintain systems application documentation and operations procedures.
  • Respond quickly and effectively to mission-critical support and project requests.
  • Provide support and training to our internal customers and communities.
  • Work with collaboration, trouble ticket and project management tools to ensure high-quality, timely problem resolution and solutions delivery.


  • 7 years of IT operation and solution delivery experience.
  • Specific applicable experience with EMC Isilon, VNX, Unity Flash and Avamar/Data Domain configurations and management procedures.
  • Strong hands-on skills in a datacenter environment working with power, rack space and AC configuration.
  • Strong solution delivery mindset and skills with experience and understanding of how to interpret customer business needs and translate them into functional business requirements, application and operational requirements.
  • Experience with a wide range of IT technologies and methodologies for infrastructure, service desk, networks, project management, financial analysis, vendor management, and global operations.
  • Understands complex strategic concepts and relationships by analyzing problems from different points of view. Applies broad knowledge and experience to address critical issues.
  • Experience working within an IT team executing processes for project management, collaboration, and trouble ticket management solutions.
  • Takes initiative to proactively handle multiple demands by demonstrating flexibility for optimum customer satisfaction.
  • Clear and effective written and verbal communication and strong interpersonal skills



  • BA/BS degree Computer Science, MIS, Business, or related disciplines.
  • Ability to evaluate new technologies and make recommendations for hardware replacements of additions.
  • Experience and demonstrated competency in participating with a team that together is managing resources, tasks, contracts, scope, and budgets for projects in the context of large, enterprise-wide technology initiatives.
  • Experience and comfortable working in a global environment requiring outreach to Navis business teams across a variety of cultures and most global time zones.
  • Deep understanding of the Windows Operating System, including application servers, database software and deployment technologies.
  • Deep understanding and experience working with a range of modern IT technologies, such as: VMware, Linux, networking, relational databases, data security, telephony, email/messaging and Google applications.
  • Knowledge of Cisco networks and blade servers would be a highly advantageous.
