Overview

Revolutionizing Collaboration and Visibility Between Ocean Carriers & Terminal Operators -- In Real Time

Ocean carriers and terminal operators know that efficiencies can be gained, waste eliminated and revenue increased through better collaboration on vessel stowage planning and execution. The tools and incentives to change these business processes have been lacking -- until now.

Navis is the global market leader in a multi-billion dollar industry building and implementing marine terminal operating systems and optimization solutions at ports around the world. From Long Beach to Hong Kong, Dubai to Brazil, and Rotterdam to Busan, Navis delivers mission critical enterprise software that is at the heart of running a terminal and services to optimize operations. We are an innovative and profitable logistics software company building mission critical solutions that enable the world economy.

Most of the material goods in the world are transported in containers using our software.

Navis is seeking a Software Engineer - MACS3 to join our talented team. In this position you will have the responsibility to take ownership of features related to vessel stability, stress calculation, damage stability etc. within our core product MACS3, which is the market-leading loading computer for container ships. You will work together with colleagues to define system requirements and build state-of-the-art software, but also maintain and refactor existing code and functionalities. You must be a quick learner, have excellent communication skills and be able to maintain ownership of large engineering projects through their lifecycle: architecture/design, implementation, testing, maintenance and support. This position has unique opportunities for growth in both the functional and technical direction.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze, design, develop, test and refactor robust large-scale applications.
  • Collaborate with product management and quality assurance to delivery highly efficient features and functionality.
  • Take ownership of a product feature and drive design, code and feature reviews.
  • Provide guidance related to your feature to various cross functional teams within the organization such as Documentation, Professional Services, Sustaining and Support.

Qualifications

  • As this is a very demanding job, we have very demanding requirements. To be part of our team, we expect the following (or equivalent) qualifications:
  • BSC/MSC/Diploma in Computer Science, Software Engineering or Marine Engineering with 3+ years of experience
  • Strong knowledge of and experience with object-oriented methodologies, design patterns, use of automated testing frameworks.
  • Experience in WinForms and WPF based desktop applications.
  • Highly experienced with software development processes, and in particular, software design and unit/integration testing.
  • Strong understanding of application software, scalability, performance and reliability aspects.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, test-driven, collaborative and iterative programming environment.
  • Experience with agile development approaches is a plus.
  • Highly motivated individual, who is ready to accept challenges, continually innovate and learn, and help others.
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Fluent in written and spoken English

Optional Skills

  • The following requirements are optional. But they will give you better insight in the kind of job this is.
  • Expertise in the maritime domain, naval architecture or marine engineering.
  • Expertise in calculations related to commercial sea-going vessels (e.g. vessel stability, hull stress, trim optimization, lash forces, separation of dangerous goods etc.).
